Special Needs

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends

Circle of Friends strives to create an excellent environment for children with special needs and their families. We provide the opportunity for parents of children with special needs to come to Flatirons and attend church, worry free, knowing that their kids also get to hear about the awesome love of Jesus Christ while being cared for and loved by staff and volunteers gifted with a passion to serve this population.

Birth to 5th Grade

Circle of friends in Summit Kids Ministry

Circle of Friends operates within Summit Kids Ministry during all weekend service times for children with special needs from birth through 5th grade.

The staff and volunteers work to include and engage each COF child in all aspects of Summit Kids Ministry, working towards the highest level of independence possible. The kids will go to their age-appropriate class with the assistance of a buddy where they will participate to the best of their ability in worship, lesson and small group. The ultimate goal is full inclusion into Summit without the need for a COF buddy.

We recognize that not all children will be able to go to class or stay in class for its entirety due to medical, sensory or behavioral needs. In this case, the COF room provides a safe space for that child to take a break, play and have the opportunity for worship and bible study when appropriate.

6th Grade to Young Adult

Once children age out of Summit Kids Ministry, we empower parents to take ownership of their God given responsibility to bring their children up in the training and instruction of the Lord. We do this by guiding parents towards taking their children to the regular service. It’s the parent’s responsibility to help further engage their children by helping them understand the message, even if it is developmentally challenging for them.

Circle of Friends Extended

Circle of Friends Extended operates in the West End Lounge and gym space at the Flatirons Lafayette Campus during the 6:00pm Saturday service and 11:00am Sunday service for those with special needs who have aged out of Summit (6th grade through young adult) that are unable to attend the regular service in the main auditorium due to medical, sensory and behavioral issues (including seizures, loud outbursts, and safety concerns such as running).

The staff and volunteers provide the opportunity for worship, bible study and community building.

Parents

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS PARENT GROUP

This is a group for parents of children with special needs. It serves as a place to find community with others who are going through similar situations and challenges.
