Special Needs

Circle of Friends – Ministry for Children with Special Needs

Summit Kids Ministry strives to create an excellent environment for every child. In Circle of Friends, we pair trained volunteers with kids with special needs to make their experience at Summit even better. For more info, or to help out with Circle of Friends, contact: Anthony_Baldassari

Want to get involved?
If you are interested in being a volunteer for Circle of Friends please contact Anthony_Baldassari or Brittany McClurg

Volunteers are required to pass a background check and attend training, prior to serving. We want you to understand the vision of our program, what the commitments are, and we want to equip you to be successful!

We look forward to seeing you at our next training!

Next Training Sessions (you only need to attend one):

Volunteer at the West Campus Fall Fest

The West Campus Fall Fest is October 28 at 6:00 PM. Fall Fest is an opportunity for families in the community to come together enjoying games, costumes, and lots of CANDY! This environment is designed for kids in 5th grade and younger. We need your help. Sign up here.

Volunteering at Summit

What’s the first step?
Volunteers are required to attend training, prior to serving. We want you to understand what this commitment requires and we want to equip you to serve well!

What’s the time commitment?
Summit asks everyone to serve about 25 times a year. That’s it! That’s one service, every other weekend. You can always know when you’re serving, too, because the schedule’s online.

What do I need to do to prepare for each weekend?
Summit prepares everything ahead of time so all our volunteers need to do is show up, engage with kids and help them learn about Jesus!

We look forward to seeing you at our next training!

Parents

How do I know my kids are safe?

Our number one goal is to take care of your kids and keep them safe.

How do we keep your child safe?

When you check your kid in at the computer stations you receive two ID tags; one tag for you and one for your kid. At the top of each of your tags you will notice an ID number. Your number matches your kid’s number. When you pick up your kid at the end of service the room host will check you and your kid out based on these matching numbers. If you lose your sticker or your kid loses theirs, a staff member will check you out. We will always ask to see a photo ID in this situation.
Our volunteers: All of our volunteers have been cleared through a national background check. We value your trust and we will not put any unsafe leaders in their classroom.

What if my child has special needs?

If your child has special needs, whether that might be a food allergy, medical condition or learning challenge, please let our staff know. We have alert stickers available at all check-in stations. Please take the appropriate sticker, make any necessary comments, and attach it to your child’s clothing. We also have the Circle of Friends available for any kids that would like a friend to help make their experience better.

What can my child expect?

Your child can expect to have a great time in our Kids Ministry! We teach curriculum for ages 18 months and older. For our rooms where a lesson is taught, your child can expect 15-20 minutes of play time followed by worship and large group teaching. After teaching time your kids will break up into age-appropriate small groups and either have fun working on a craft, eating a snack (18-33 month rooms only) or talking with a small group leader. If your child is in one of our Nursery rooms we will play with your babies while providing diaper changes, feeding, and any other care needs.

How can I become a Kids Ministry leader?

Stop at the Summit Kids Ministry Leader Info window to find out more information. We are currently looking for Kids Ministry Leaders who can commit to serving a regular rotation. All are background-checked and trained.

When can I drop off and pick up my child?

You can drop off your child 15 minutes before the service begins. There must be two leaders in the room in order to drop off your child. Please pick up your child no later than 10 minutes after the service ends.

As a parent, can I go into the room?

For security purposes, we ask that all parents stay on the outside of the half wall. Under special circumstances Kids Ministry Staff can allow a parent to enter the room.

Can my third grade child be in the same room as my first grade child?

No. Every room in Kids Ministry is specifically designed for each age in an effort to provide the best possible environment for your child(ren).
