Trusting in the Only One Who Can

Posted by Kimberlee Herbic on

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. —Proverbs 3:5-6

From the beginning, God planned to offer His Son Jesus to redeem the world. Jesus’ purpose in coming to earth was to save us and show us God's mighty love. By faith in Jesus, we have access to God and the gift of salvation.

Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He taught, healed, and loved messy and broken people. Oh, how I want to be more like Jesus! Jesus died on the cross to take our sins and offer us forgiveness in return. The transaction that happened when we died and rose again with Him (Galatians 2:20), dressed us in new life and a new identity. The old has gone, the new is here! By faith, we have been saved.

God has given each of us the choice to accept or reject this gift of salvation.

How do we accept His invitation? We ask Jesus to come into our hearts by faith, and we trust that He will. This is an act of trust by faith, not a feeling.  We accept Jesus into our hearts and trust that because of God’s grace, He forgives us and saves us. Through Jesus, we are made right with God. We are a new creation. Accepting Jesus by faith guarantees us eternal life too because He has prepared a place for us to be with Him. What a mighty God we serve!

In Christ we are chosen, holy, and accepted. In Christ, we are forgiven, loved, seen, and heard. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, we are adopted and sealed into the family of God. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. We can trust that Jesus lives inside us and we become united with Him. Through Jesus, we find our strength, nourishment, and power. As a baby is tethered to his or her mother in the womb, so we are tethered to Christ. We can trust that He is with us always and that we are sustained through His life. Jesus promises never to leave us or forsake us. In Christ, we find our security, safety, and hope.

What a friend we have in Jesus!

Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that He is the way the truth and the life. We trust Him to do what only He can do—save us and restore us to the fullness of who He created us to be.

Will you trust Him today?
