// Discussion Questions
- Ben explains that people might view Jesus as a killjoy because they misunderstand his teachings. Why do people often misinterpret Jesus' teachings as a set of strict rules and actions? What are some ways you or someone you know has misunderstood Jesus' teachings, and how did that affect your life?
- Read Romans 1:25. The Apostle Paul addresses a prevalent problem where people were exchanging the truth about God for lies and worshiping created things (aka objects or desires designed for our enjoyment) instead of the Creator. In what ways do we see people or ourselves exchanging the truth about God for lies and placing their focus and worship on created things instead of the Creator?
- Ben provides examples of how setting boundaries, such as enjoying sexual desires within context (i.e., marriage or alcohol consumption in moderation) can lead to freedom and deeper connections and improved relationships. How can setting boundaries around desires lead to a fuller, freer life? In what ways can setting boundaries in these areas improve emotional and spiritual intimacy?
- Read John 10:10. Ben emphasizes that pursuing limitless pleasure is a lie from a THIEF who wants to steal, kill, and destroy. The thief’s lie will lead toward addiction, obsession, and slavery. How can you better protect your life from the thief, but also experience Jesus’ promise of an abundant and fulfilling life? In what areas of your life do you need to set boundaries and embrace the freedom Jesus offers to counter the lie to pursue limitless pleasure?
- Read Genesis 1:28-29,31. This passage emphasizes that God’s creation we are meant to enjoy was “very good” or designed to be exceedingly pleasing and surpassing all our expectations. How does understanding God’s intent for us to enjoy ourselves change the way we few His boundaries and or rules for enjoyment? What does enjoying our freedom the Christ gave us look like?
