// Discussion Questions

  1. Jim explained the Sabbath as a spiritual discipline and a command from God, highlighting its importance for rest and remembering God's work. What is the purpose of observing Sabbath in our Christian life? How can you practice Sabbath in your own life to find rest for your soul by focusing on God's provisions?
  2. Jim mentioned his experience training for a marathon and emphasized the importance of pacing and hydration, drawing a parallel to the need for rest and remembering in our spiritual lives. How does the concept of pacing oneself in a marathon relate to the practice of Sabbath? How can you apply the principle of pacing to your spiritual journey and avoid burning out?
  3. Read Deut 6:1-9,12. In Deuteronomy the commandments, including Sabbath, are given out of love for the benefit of believers. Why is Sabbath important in preventing believers from forgetting God and what He has done? In what ways can you intentionally remember what God has done in your life during your Sabbath rest?
  4. Read Matthew 23:4. Jim addressed the misconception that following Jesus means constantly working to earn salvation, pointing out that the Christian life is about finding rest in Jesus. What misconceptions do people have about working and striving in the Christian life? What are some ways you may have been trying to earn your salvation and how can you shift your focus to resting in Jesus?
  5. Read Mathew 11:28-30. Pastor Jim relayed that following Jesus should feel more like rest than a heavy burden. Describe a time in your Christian life where following Christ felt like a burden rather than rest. What was happening that made it feel that way? What role of regular time set aside to connect with Jesus could have/did help relieve the heaviness of the burden?

// Challenge: How does the statement 'I will stop doing one thing so that I can do something better' relate to the practice of Sabbath? What is one thing you can stop doing this week to prioritize your Sabbath rest and focus on a deeper relationship with God?
