Group Overview
Today we close out our series, Searching. We will be focusing on “The Search for Influence.” The story we are talking about today is how the rich young ruler was willing to do anything except sacrifice everything to gain influence. He was on the search for more, but Jesus tells us we should walk down the journey of sacrifice to gain eternal life.
Ice Breaker
Who is an influencer you are currently following? (Youtuber, Twitch streamer, TikTok, or Instagram)
Discussion Questions
- What stood out the most in today’s passage and why?
- The rich young man asked Jesus a very important question. What does his question reveal about him?
- Jesus’s answer (keep the commandments) seems a bit strange. Why did he point the young man to keeping the commandments? Read Ephesians 2:8-9. What is Jesus trying to help the man see?
- What does the passage reveal to us about God?
- Peter was concerned about the sacrifices he had made to follow Jesus. What are some examples of sacrifices YOU might be asked to make?
Prayer
Take Prayer Requests and have students split into groups of 2-3 and pray together.
