// Discussion Questions

  1. Read Luke 2:8-12. In the sermon, Pastor Jim discussed the low social standing of the shepherds and the significance of their role in raising sacrificial lambs. Why do you think God chose shepherds to be the ones to receive the news of Jesus' birth? In what ways do you see God working in the lives of those who might be overlooked or undervalued in society?
  2. Pastor Jim explained that the shepherds were familiar with the rituals surrounding sacrificial lambs and recognized the sign from God. Specifically, the significance of swaddling clothes and manger being used for perfect sacrificial lambs and how that related to Jesus being the ultimate sacrifice for people’s sins. Can you think of a time when you recognized God's message in an unexpected place or situation?
  3. In the sermon Jim relayed that after the shepherds witnessed the biggest announcement in history they went back to their lives…lives whose physical circumstances did not change and become easier. However, now they had hope, joy, and a belief that God loved them. How do you think this knowledge and belief comforted the shepherds? How has this knowledge and belief helped you in difficulty?
  4. The sermon mentioned that Jesus was born in humble circumstances, showing that God's love extends to everyone, not just the wealthy or the Jews. In what ways does the birth of Jesus demonstrate God's love and grace for all people? How can you personally demonstrate God's love and grace to others?
  5. Pastor Jim discussed the idea of examining our priorities and donating to the Christmas offering to support the rescue and care of vulnerable children. How does redirecting our priorities and giving generously, as mentioned in the sermon, reflect the true meaning of Christmas? What changes can you make in your life to prioritize giving and serving others during the Christmas season and beyond?

// Challenge: Pray about Jim’s challenge of going back through your credit/debit card statement, adding up everything that was spent on you, your family, and friends, divide that number by ten, and then if you feel called give that number to Flatiron’s Christmas offering?
