Knowing God Through His Word Part Ⅱ | Week 2
October 20, 2024 | By Jim Burgen
What happens when your values drift from what's most important? In part two of Know God Through His Word, we explore how our values shape every part of our lives—our choices, relationships, and even our politics. When we drift from God’s truth, we often replace it with lies that lead to pain and confusion. The Bible isn’t just a guide for private beliefs; it’s the foundation for how we live publicly. Are you ready to let God's Word lead, even when it's tough?

- Jim talked about how values drive everything we do and how our choices reveal what we value most in life. What are some ways values affect our daily decisions and actions? Can you think of a specific situation in your life where your values influenced a major choice you made?
- Jim emphasized knowing God's values affects every aspect of our lives, including how we treat others. In what ways can knowing God through His Word impact how we interact with others? Think about a recent conflict you faced; how could knowing God's Word have changed the way you handled it?
- Jim discussed how some people may try to reinterpret God’s teachings to match what they want rather than accepting His truth. Why do you think people might feel tempted to change God’s Word to fit their own views? Have you ever felt pressured to fit in with others by adjusting your beliefs?
- Read Romans 1:18-23. Jim explained that God reveals Himself to everyone, and that we cannot make excuses about not knowing Him because He is evident in nature. What are some examples of seeing God’s nature in the world around you? How could it change your perspective?
- Jim highlighted that an 'Amen' means trusting God's plan even when we don’t fully understand or agree with His ways. What does it mean to have an 'Amen' response to God's commands, even when they are hard to follow? Reflect on a command or teaching from God that you find challenging. How can you practice saying 'Amen' to it in your life?
// Challenge: Jim challenged us that knowing God through His word and knowing His truth affects every part of our life. I.e., personal/public life, marriage, family, sexuality, entertainment, education, finances, and our interaction with the government. What area of your life do you feel God is asking you to shift your values in? How will this shift cause you to act differently? How can this group support/pray for you in taking an initial step towards acting differently in that area of your life this week?
