Made For More

Thin Red Line | Week 5

September 1, 2024 | By Jim Burgen

Are you tired of living a life that feels less than what you were made for? In this final message of the "Made for More" series, we’re diving deep into what it means to truly know God and the abundant life He offers. This talk is a call to men to step up, draw a line in the sand, and lead their families with purpose. It’s about making the hard choices now to avoid a future of regret—choices that start with where we pitch our tents. Are you ready to aim your life towards God instead of settling for less?

// Discussion Questions

  1. Read Proverbs 29:25. Jim emphasized the importance of trusting God over seeking human approval, pointing out that it often leads to traps or unhappiness. Why do you think people often seek the approval of others? In what areas of your life do you feel pressured to seek approval from others, and how can you remind yourself to trust God's opinion instead?
  2. Jim discussed how Lot's decision to live near Sodom began a long journey away from God, illustrating how one small choice can lead to bigger problems over time. What does it mean to pitch your tent toward Sodom in your daily life, and how can making small choices lead to significant consequences? Can you think of a small choice you've made recently that could lead you in a direction you're not happy with? How can you change your choices to align more with God's guidance?
  3. Jim described how Lot lingered and hesitated when warned to leave Sodom, indicating a struggle between his old life and God's plan. How did Lot's hesitation to leave Sodom reflect his priorities, and what can we learn from his story about following God's guidance? What are some things in your life that might be holding you back from following God fully? How can you overcome that hesitation?

  1. Jim introduced crossing the Thin Red Line as a commitment to live differently by making choices that honor God. What commitment can you make in your life that represents your own 'Thin Red Line'? How can you stay accountable to that commitment?
  2. Jim encouraged men to unite and support each other in living according to God's principles rather than the norms of society. How can men in a community work together to lead their families and lives toward God's purpose? What steps can you take to build relationships with other men that foster accountability and mutual support in following God?

// Challenge: Jim encouraged men this week to join the Thin Red Line. If you committed to it or not, share your reasons why. Learn more and find more Thin Red Line resources at: https://www.flatironschurch.com/thinredline/
