Faithful with Little

March 9, 2025 | By Jim Burgen

What’s your life really about? Jesus makes it clear—only what’s invested in God’s kingdom lasts. In this parable, He lays out a challenge: everything we have—money, influence, time—has been entrusted to us by God. And one day, He’ll ask what we did with it. Were we faithful, or did we waste it? This isn’t about guilt; it’s about perspective. Your life is training for something bigger. What you do now determines what God can trust you with next. So, what are you doing with what He’s given you?

// Discussion Questions

  1. The message emphasizes that seeking first the Kingdom of God means prioritizing God's will and goodness above our personal desires and possessions. What does it mean to 'seek first the Kingdom of God' in your daily life? Can you identify an area in your life where you are currently prioritizing something else over God's Kingdom? How can you shift that priority?
  2. Read Luke 19:11-27 Jim discusses how the nobleman referred to his followers as servants, which highlights our role as stewards of what God has entrusted to us. How does the perspective of being a 'servant' change how we view our responsibilities? In what ways can viewing yourself as a servant of God help you to be more faithful with the time, treasure, and talents you have?
  3. Jesus said, 'To everyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.' (Luke 19:26) How do you think this applies to faith and responsibility? In what ways can you demonstrate faithfulness in small things now to prepare for greater responsibilities in the future?
  4. The third servant was unfaithful by keeping his mina in a handkerchief, which led to his inaction being condemned by the nobleman. What can we learn from the third servant's unfaithfulness in utilizing what was given to him? Are there areas in your life where you feel like you are 'playing it safe' instead of using what God has given you for His Kingdom? What steps can you take to invest in His Kingdom more courageously?
  5. The message stresses that our lives are preparation for eternity and that every choice has significance in the larger context of God's Kingdom. How can the understanding that 'this life is not all there is' impact your choices and attitudes? Reflect on your long-term goals. How do they align with the idea that your life is about more than just the here and now?

// Challenge: Jim encouraged us to take a closer look at our time, treasure, and talents—asking how the Holy Spirit might be leading us to use them for God’s Kingdom. How do you feel God is prompting you to invest what He’s given you to make an impact at Flatirons?
